“Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer” –Author Unknown

Come and join Youth Shelters in the fight to end teen homelessness in Santa Fe! We need caring and compassionate individuals interested in a meaningful volunteer experience and willing to commit to a regular schedule. Whether you are a good listener, like to cook, or can help with maintenance, our staff will work with you to find the best match for your skills and interests.

All of our volunteers receive training and support while working alongside staff in a variety of programs. Even if it’s just for a few hours a week, you can make a difference in the lives of homeless and in-crisis youth in Northern New Mexico.

If you decide to donate your time and energy to help these youth, you’ll discover a rich and rewarding world of community involvement and a welcoming group of staff and fellow volunteers. As one of our volunteers said recently, “I like giving back to the community. It’s why I’m here.”

We are in need of  “Lunch and Snack Sponsors” for our Civic Justice program and for our Mom’s group meetings. We are looking for people to help make or get materials for lunches and snacks for our clients! Please call us to learn more about this wonderful way to help out clients!

Youth Shelters’ Civic Justice Corps began November 1, 2011 and is going strong! We are very proud of our program and the services it is providing young adults in our community.
The program staff will need help from volunteers with tutoring, general mentoring and with all around help with  getting the program up and running. There are a variety of days and shifts for volunteers in this program.

In addition to tutors for our Civic Justice program, Youth Shelters is in need of MATH tutors for students from middle school through high school for after-school and sometimes evening and weekend sessions.

Donation Room help at Youth Shelters’ administration building:

Youth Shelters is looking for organized individuals to help with our donation room. We need help with sorting, storing and sometimes even ‘redonating or recycling’ things that are donated to us.  Our ideal is a team of volunteers who can come on a regular basis to help manage the donation room especially during the busy holiday season when the volume of donations is high. This is a great opportunity for a team or individual to really get involved in an important dimension of our service to the YS clients.

Administration Volunteers– flexible shifts, daytime

We operate with a modest budget and a small administrative staff. Therefore we always need volunteers to answer phones, help with in-house administrative work such as typing, filing, and errands, help with large mailings, poster/flyer distributions, and sorting donations. A regularly scheduled commitment is not needed for this type of work.

Special Events

Throughout the year we have a number of special events that need volunteers to help with fundraising, picking up donations, setting up, decorating, or cleaning. Our fall fundraisers are in full plan mode and we would love volunteers to help us with projects like donation requests and sponsor calls.

Fixers Group

Help with various repairs and maintenance at our four locations.

Driver – at least once a week (a bit more during the holidays)

Individuals with a truck or SUV are needed to support Youth Shelters by delivering weekly donations to the downtown Drop-In Center Center, take recycling from the Youth Emergency Shelter, picking up large donations or helping with various projects that might need a vehicle and someone willing to help move things around.
